Legendary Bulldog Coach Jerry Bennett was smiling down on W.F. Lockett stadium Friday night as the Jefferson Bulldogs easily rolled to victory over the Leonard Tigers 56-12.

This was the first game since Bennett’s passing earlier this year.

The Tigers had first possession and passed their way into Bulldog territory. However Junior Tyler McCurry’s (#13) interception stopped them short.  The Dogs drove back the other way and capped the drive with a 4-yard zone run by Junior Jacoby Marrow (#2) for the first touchdown for the night. The Extra point by Junior Ethan Maxwell (#10) was good.  With only about a minute and half run off the clock this would be the beginning of a long night for the Tigers.  Jefferson’s next score would come at the 6:06 mark when Quarterback Junior Chance Washington (#3) connected with Junior Jermaine “Turkey” Hopkins (#4) on a 13-yard hot route, extra point was no-good.  Jefferson was up 13-0.

Leonard would have the first score in the 2nd quarter when they scored on an 18 yard draw play.  The extra point was blocked.  The Bulldogs would respond 40 seconds later When Washington hit Junior Travis Gray Jr. (#11) on a 23-yard fade route.  Extra point was good, making the score 20-6 with 9:48 in the half.  The Tigers would score for the last time with 4:00 left in the half on a 12-yard drag route into the endzone.  However, once again, the Bulldogs blocked the PAT and Linebacker Senior Fisher Bradley (#32) would scoop and score the failed PAT giving the Bulldogs 2 points, making the score 22-12.  Washington would round out the 1st half scoring with 6 seconds left, by calling his own number on a 13-yard run-pass-option (RPO).  The Maxwell extra point was good.  This made the 1st half score 29-12.

The 3rd quarter began as the 2nd quarter had ended with the Bulldogs driving down 53 yards where Washington found Sophomore Kayden Grigsby (#12) uncovered in the endzone for a 1 yard reception.   Extra point was good.  Score was 36-12. On the next series the Tigers were able to get back into Jefferson territory but were thwarted when linebacker Junior Kobin Tomlinson (#7) intercepted the ball.  The remaining scores for the 3rd quarter would come on a 67-yard wheel route from Washington to Gray, and a 9-yard post route from Washington to Grigsby.  Both extra points were good.

In the 4th quarter, Sophomore Demetrius Carr (#16) added the final score of the game on a 16-yard run.  Extra point was no good.  The final score was Jefferson Bulldogs 56, Leonard Tigers 12.

The Bulldogs will be in action again at 7p Friday as they travel to Newton to take on the Eagles.
