Alley Street Closure

North Alley Street at the railroad tracks will be closed on Tuesday as Union Pacific asphalts over some of the older railroad tracks. The tracks will still be there for use, but they will be easier to maintain and create a much smoother crossing.

VFW Fish Fry

Please consider joining us for the VFW Post 10373 Monthly Fish Fry this Saturday, October 7 from 11a-2p. While the damage to the Post is being repaired, the members of Christ Episcopal Church have graciously offered to host the event. Christ Episcopal Church is located at 703 S Main St. The meal includes fried fish, French fries, and hush puppies. Desserts will also be available. ALL ARE WELCOME! See you Saturday!

Central High

What About Central High? Is the topic of discussion at a Community Town Hall at Noon, Saturday, Oct. 7, at St. Paul Methodist Church. Suggestions on the future use and preservation of the grounds are being gathered to provide to JISD, the City, and County.

Denim & Diamonds

MCDCSCO will hold their annual Denim and Diamonds party at 6p October 14 at the JeffersonVisitor’s Center. This is a scholarship fundraiser. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased from any MCDCSCO member, or contact Mary Spearmon, 903-738-3028

Shady Ladies

Jefferson’s Shady Ladies Witches will dance at 6:30p 7p every Friday and Saturday in October at Made in The Shade’s courtyard. The event raises money for Shriners. 

Coat Drive

The Jefferson Rotary Club will be holding a Coat Drive starting October 1. Last year the group provided 50 coats for kids in the area and they are hoping to double that number this year. The drive will run through December 1.

Seminar

Disc Golf

The 2nd Annual Bill West Memorial Disc Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, October 7th at Lakeside Park on Lake O’ the Pines.

Ribbon Cutting

Foodie Tasting Room will have a Ribbon Cutting at 2p Saturday October 7, at their shop, 114 W Lafayette St. The public is invited to attend.

Grubbs Reunion

The 56th Annual Grubbs Reunion will be held at 1p Sunday October 8th at Jucy’s Hamburgers, 2003 Victory Drive, Marshall. Please contact your family and encourage them to join us!

Spaghetti

The Excelsior Hotel will be holding a spaghetti dinner from 5-8p October 10th.  They will be serving spaghetti, salad, bread and dessert for $15. Take outs will be available by calling the hotel at 903-665-2513 or any garden club member. All proceeds will be used for restoration projects by the Jessie Allen Wise Garden Club. 

Meet the Authors

The Mims Community Center will hold a Fall Meet the Authors event from 1-4p on October 14. There will be introductions, book discussions, meet and greets, and refreshments. For more information, call 903-256-7306.

Bike Wash

Jefferson First Assembly of God will be holding a FREE Bike Wash from 10a-5p Oct. 13 and 14. The event is part of the Jefferson Burn Benefit.

CLHRC meets

The next meeting of the Caddo Lake Historical Research Committee will be Saturday, October 14, at the Gray/Potter’s Point Community Center at 2 pm. Hattie Hackler will speak on the subject, ‘Giant Salvinia on Caddo Lake.’ This promises to be a very interesting and timely topic. The address of the Community Center is 129 MCR 3636, Gray, Texas. All are welcome. Please plan to come. Light refreshments will be served.

Circus

The Culpepper & Merriweather Circus will be at Lion’s Club Park at 5p Oct. 18. Tickets are available from any Lions Club member, Port Jefferson Coffee Roasters, Visitors Center. There are two showtimes, 5p and 7:30p

Mens B-Ball

Men’s Basketball restarts for the fall on October 21. They will meet at Heritage Baptist Church from 4-6p every Saturday afternoon.

Radio Play

The Opera House Theatre Players will be performing “Inner Sanctum Mystery” at 7p Oct. 27-28 at Enoch’s Wine and Coffee House. There’s plenty of scares in this 1940s Radio show production.

Cowboys

The Gray VFD and Gray Potters Point Community Center are holding a raffle fundraiser for 2 or 4 tickets to see the Dallas Cowboys play December 30 at AT&T Stadium. For 2 tickets and a parking pass, Section 412, Row 3, Seats 13 & 14, raffle tickets are $10 each. For 4 tickets and a parking pass, Section 412, Row 3, Seats 15, 16, 17, & 18, raffle tickets are $20 each. For more information or to purchase tickets, contact a representative from Gray VFW or Community Center. The Drawing will be held at noon, November 18, at the Community Center.

Thanksgiving Dinner

The 4th Annual Elderly Thanksgiving Dinner will be held at the Jefferson Community Center located at 501 N Haywood St. Jefferson, Tx 75657 on Saturday November 18th starting at 3pm until all food is gone. Dine in and delivery options will be available. We look forward to serving the elderly, disabled, as well as the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Jefferson Police Department. 

Farmers Market

  • • The Mims Community Center 12728 Fm 729 north side of Lake O’the Pines, is back open for the Fall and will run through early October. For additional information, call 903-930-5104.
  • The Historic Jefferson Farmer’s Market is open every Saturday through the end of October in the First National Bank parking lot in downtown Jefferson.
  • Jefferson Academy Marketplace is open across from the old Napa store. They have yellow squash, zucchini, cucumbers, carrots, beans, herbs, and blackberries. All grown at the Academy.

Bees

Honeybees are out in full swarm now that summer is almost here. If you have bees, don’t call an exterminator. Instead, call Stanford Brantley at 903-742-2765 and let him help remove and relocate them.
