COVID-19 Cases Increase By 18, Separate Announcement for Requiring Face Masks Pending

Marion County Judge Leward LaFleur released a statement this morning indicating an increase of 18 active cases. The total accumulative cases are now at 58 with one fatality, 25 recoveries, and 32 active cases.

LaFleur’s press release did not indicate where the 18 new cases are located, however social media posts and comments by a family member of a resident have said a number of cases are at local nursing facility Magnolia Place. LaFleur said in a FaceBook post, “I do not know names or place of employment. I also do not know if they are in the nursing home. That information is not give to me at the time of reporting. I do know that the nursing home has cases but do not know the exact number and until that is released to me as a fact, I will not report them.”

Texas Governor Gregg Abbott’s Executive Order GA-29 requires face masks be worn unless a county has fewer than 20 active cases and they applied for an exemption through Texas Department of Emergency Management (TDEM). TDEM notifies counties of the end of the exemption.

LaFleur said a separate announcement will be issued regarding required face masks in Marion County.
