Jefferson’s Tourism Board opened their May meeting with a presentation from Anderson Marketing on what services Anderson is providing the Board, as well as a brief update on the various advertising terms being used.

Anderson has been providing marketing advice and digital ad placement for the City for the last several years allowing the City to advertise in larger markets at lower costs. Currently the City is using Over The Top streaming advertising in the north DFW market.

Following the presentation, the Board asked Anderson to look at options for including the Shreveport/Bossier markets on a trial basis, and the possibility of using funds currently directed at the Tyler market to Anderson for better pricing.

Two new events and one existing event will receive $1,000 in funding from the HOT funds for advertising.

The Art Walk, scheduled for September 7, which will incorporate various artists into downtown businesses and the new Art Gallery opening on Walnut Street, will be receiving funds. The Art Walk has over 50 businesses ready to participate and over 30 artists signed up.

Woofstock and Buddy’s Run to the Rescue will also be receiving funds for their 2nd occurrence also scheduled for September. Proceeds from the event benefit Friends of Jefferson Animals.

The Jefferson Antique Tractor Show will receive assistance even though the event is in it’s 6th year, it has been privately funded previously.

The Board also received an update on Christmas decorating efforts for this fall. B.W. Brooks said he’s working with TxDOT on approving adding lights across Polk and other streets in downtown.

Board President Colleen Taylor ended the meeting by asking local businesses to start preparing to decorate for Christmas in early November.

The City’s annual Christmas Show is being filmed on November 12, and will air on November 20.

Taylor asked businesses to try and be decorated for Christmas before the November 12 filming if at all possible.

The Board will meet again on June 10.
