A new event will join the City activities in February 2025 with the creation of Mittie Stephens Day.
The new event, sponsored by Big Cypress Corvettes, will have a costumed cast tell the stories of some passengers on the steamship which sank Feb. 12, 1869.
The free event will take place at 2p at Historic Union Baptist Church on Houston Street.
That evening there will also be the Mittie Stephens Valentine’s Ball, celebrating the glory days of steamboat travel on Big Cypress. It beings at 7p at the Carnegie Library. Admission is $25 for the ball. Proceeds will beneit the Library and the Jefferson Museum.
