VFW Fish Fry

The Jefferson chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will host their monthly First Saturday Fish Fry this weekend. Set for 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, lunch will include fried fish, fries, coleslaw, beans and a drink— all for a $10 donation. Dessert will be available for $1. Lunch can be enjoyed dine-in or carryout from the Post at 1399 US-59, Jefferson. All donations are tax deductible and proceeds will benefit the Post. 

 Sales Tax Weekend

Texas will hold their annual back to school sales tax holiday starting Friday, August 5 running through Sunday, August 7. During this time qualifying clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced less than $100 are exempt from sales tax.

WOWE Fundraiser

The Women at the Well of Encouragement are having a Garage Sale to assist their Children’s Christmas Toy Drive Fund Raiser held every third Saturday in December. The Garage Sale will be August 6, 2022, from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. Location is 201 W. Broadway St. Jefferson, TX 75657, in the NAPA Parking lot. Many items of clothing for kids, young adults, women and men, household items, pictures and other misc. items. In addition, we will have Baked Goods for sale.

School Supplies, Starts

JISD is again providing all school supplies for students at all campuses this year, Parents/Guardians are only responsible for backpacks and water bottles. School will start on Tuesday, August 9, at all campuses. Registration opens August 1.

Heat Advisory

Please use caution if you are going to be out in the heat this week. Heat indexes will be between 102 to 109. Please drink plenty of water and find some shade. Also please use sunblock, sunburn can be extremely painful as well as leading to skin cancer.

’57-58 

Reunion

Plans for the Jefferson High School class of 1957 reunion have been finalized. The class will meet at the Methodist Church at 10 AM August 6th, looking forward to a day of visiting and “eating”. The class has had a reunion every five years since graduating, this being the 65th year. Also, the classmates meet monthly for lunch. The class of 1958 will join the ‘57 class for their reunion. 

Player Watch

According to a FaceBook post by JHS Coach Candejoel Rivera, Kamran Williams, a sophomore, made the Class 3A Division I Player Watch List this year! Congratulations Kamran!

Music Fest

The 2022 Diamond Fest Music Concert is next weekend! Things kick off Friday, August 12, at the Dimond Don RV Park and Event Center just east of town on Hwy 49, with a Tailgate Party. Landry and Company will be performing from 6-10p Saturday, August 13. Entry Fee is $10 for just concert, or $20 with supper starting at 7p. COVID Panel

St. Paul UMC and UT-Tyler Fisch College of Pharmacy will hold a COVID-19 Education and Awareness Panel from 12:30-4p August 20. Come join the discussion with healthcare professionals about the fears and doubts of COVID-19 vaccines. Vaccines and Boosters will be provided for free. Appointments are not required.

Ag Program

Marion and Cass County AgriLife and Prairie View Extension will be hosting a Cattle Herd and Pasture Management During Drought Program with is good for one free CEU, from 2:30-5p August 23 at the Kellyville Community Center; 130 Kelly Park Rd, Jefferson, TX 75657. Topics Covered include Hay and Supplementing Cow-Calf Herds During Drought by Dr Jason Banta, and Preventing Cool Season Weeds by Dr. Vanessa Corriher-Olson.
