City of Jefferson

Staff Reports

The Jefferson City Council decided to again table a request from Ward 3/2 Alderman Robin Moore to address a semi-truck parking issue on Titus Street by Master WoodCraft and Lone Star Studs.

At issue, according to Moore, is Master WoodCraft is parking trucks on both sides of Titus Street thus causing employees and neighborhood residents to find alternative routes away from the plants. Moore said she had had calls of complaints about the situation, but would not disclose who complained.

Jefferson Mayor Rob Baker posed the question to Moore and said there had not been any calls to City Hall or the Police Department on the issue.

Jefferson Police Chief Tino Perez said he and Baker had met with Master WoodCraft and Lone Star Studs since the last council meeting and neither company had complaints about the other regarding parking.

Perez said the companies were working together to minimize the amount of time vehicles were parked there, but it was a busy time and sometimes it could not be avoided.

“No one wants to come out and say they’re complaining about their neighbor,” said Moore. “Just because no one says they’re not complaining … Why do we need to bring this up to enforce an ordinance?”

Perez said he could write citations, but the issue would still be there and he said he felt given a little time this could be resolved.

Ward 1/3 Alderman Richard Turner said he recalled something about the location of Titus Street not being where the pavement is located, and the trucks may actually be parking on their property.

Council decided to table the matter until the August 16 meeting so Perez could again meet with the companies and see what could be done.

Council also approved funding up to $500 in refreshments and “finger sandwiches” for the two meetings of the Strategic Plan committees meetings on August 9-11 and October 12-13. Moore presented the dates, for the first time, to Council.

Moore said during these meetings, the first of which is the Texas Leadership Training meetings in August, members of the community would be present. She said the October meeting would have the Texas Target Communities people present and would include an invitation to the whole community to provide input on October 13.

Following the meeting, Council held a Budget Workshop and took input from Public Works Director Allen Whatley, and Perez.

Council meets again in Budget Workshop August 9.
