Renew Your Marks

Got Beef?

Well, you’d better renew your marks and brands before August 30, according to Marion County Clerk Vickie Smith.

According to Texas Agriculture Code 144.044, all registered marks and brands that have been recorded will be expiring at the end of the month and will have no “force or effect and will be available on a first-come basis” starting March 1, 2022.

Owners will have from August 31 to February 28 to renew their marks and brands.

According to Smith, renewal is easy and can be done at the Clerk’s office, 102 W. Austin. The recording fee is $26 for a single brand and $5 for each additional location, per type of animal.

For more information, contact the Texas Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association law enforcement department at 800-242-7820, or the Clerk’s office at 903-665-3971.

Pioneer Days Parade

The Pioneer Days Committee has come up with a unique idea for the Parade which is scheduled for 10 am on Saturday, Sept. 4.  They have decided to let young kids ride their stick-horses in the parade right up front to lead the parade.

The committee has four stick-horses available to use in case some child needs one but others are available for sale at the Jefferson General Store.  If you have one in your toy box, get it out, spruce it up, put on your best cowboy outfit and get ready to “ride” in this first-ever parade to honor the pioneers of the county.

Anyone interested in trying out should be at the Visitor Center Lobby from 4:30 to 5:30 pm  on  Sunday, Sept. 5, for an interview and line-reading with the director Jane Maddox and the producer Marcia Thomas.

The play is scheduled for Oct. 29 & 30 at Union Baptist Church
