Max Marquez, 15 (JHS 10th) and Abel Marquez, 13 (JJHS 8th) competed in The Texas Open National Martial Arts Championships on January 15, 2022, held in Tyler. Each won 1st place in their respective age group for Black Belt Traditional Weapon category using a whip chain. Max and Abel are the sons of Pete and Rachel Marquez of Jefferson.
