Residents were thrilled at the sights, sounds and smells that permeated Magnolia Place Wellness and Rehabilitation last week.

Their theme for this year’s National Nursing Home week was “We’re Going to the County Fair.”  Magnolia Place scheduled daily activities and events for the residents to participate in including worm races, petting zoo, quilt show, chili cook-off, arts and craft show, pine car derby, baking contest, resident photo gallery display, a cow milking demonstration and they even milked a simulated cow!

Most residents really enjoyed the cow milking demonstration, for other residents it brought back not-so-good memories of growing up on the farm. “I used to milk cows and I hated it!” said Verna A.

All week long the kitchen was cookin’ up some tasty fair food such as corn dogs, fried cheese on a stick, chicken and waffles, corn in a cup and burger sliders. We had guest judges for the bake-off and chili contest which included Jefferson Police Chief Perez, Doug Weir of Texas A&M Agrilife Extension, Taylor Foster, Activity Coordinator at Cypress Place Assisted Living, Hugh Lewis II, Owner Jefferson Jimplecute, Joe Buck, KMHT 103.9 FM Radio Station Manager, Rob Barnwell, JISD Superintendent, Teresa Ponder, Owner Haywood House and The Magnolias B&B, and Jim Kale, Administrator Magnolia Place Wellness and Rehabilitation.
