APL 

Animal Protection League will be in Jefferson twice in April and is offering FREE dog distemper/parvo (DAPPv) and free cat Distemper (Feline HCP) vaccinations. They have extended this offer until the end of April or as long as supplies last. They will be at the corner of Polk and Henderson streets from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 30th. Meet the Author

Enoch’s Wine & Coffee House, 116 N Polk, will host a book signing and author meet and greet for Jody Hadlock’s The Lives of Diamond Bessie. The author’s press release says it’s the first time the Diamond Bessie story has been “brought to life” in a novel. The visit is part of Enoch’s Books & Barrels event and will run from 4-5:30p on Saturday.

Rural, Set, Go: Boost

Workforce Solutions of East Texas will host a pubic networking forum from 11:30a-1p on May 3 at the Jeffersonian Institute. Rural, Set, Go: Boost! is an extension of the innovative event series launched in 2021.  These rural economic development forums are an intentional strategy to engage community leaders, business leaders, and community members in candid conversations about the factors that influence their local workforce and economic development needs.  Participants have the ability to connect with local program information, including work-based learning,  entrepreneurial training, job training, child care services, and more. Young Leaders Workshop

Americans for Prosperity, Texas, is sponsoring a Young Leaders Workshop from 9-5 May 7 at the Jeffersonian Institute. The workshop is an interactive leadership development program that focuses on freedom and citizenship in America. Mother’s Day

• Mother’s Day is May 8. The Jefferson Historic Railway will hold special rides for mom’s from 12:30-2:30p on May 7. Mom’s receive a 10% discount when accompanied by their children.

• Jefferson area florists encourage everyone to get their flower orders in as soon as possible. 

Band Concert

The Jefferson Bands Annual Spring Concert will be at 6p.m. May 16 in the High School Gym.

Friday the 13th Train

The Historic Jefferson Railway will hold a “Friday the 13th evening train ride through the dark and spooky woods.” The train will depart the Austin Street depot at 9:30 p.m. Friday, May 13.

Mims Spring Market

A benefit Spring Market will be held from 11a-4p on May 14 at 12729 FM 729 for the Mims VFD and Ambulance Services. There will be Arts & Crafts, Plants, Shopping, Food and Fun. Vendors are still needed for this event. For more information, contact Donna Kangas at 214-546-0469.

More Train Sightings

May 14-15 Jefferson will see a marked increase in rail traffic, but not like you think. The Jeferson Historical Society and Museum, along with Historic Jefferson Railway, will host their Annual Train Days from 10-5 May 14, and 11-4 May 15. Events include special runs of the Historic Jefferson Railway, the R.D. Moses railway exhibit at the Museum, Lonesome Dove Safari & Train, and the Train Show at the Jefferson Visitor’s Center.

Community celebration

The Jefferson Lions Club and the Jefferson Rotary Club will  host a Community Celebration on Saturday, May 14th, from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Lions Park. This will be a fun day at the park with a live DJ, ITALIAN ice truck, bounce houses, and food available for purchase. We are asking that all organizations, churches, and groups host a booth with children’s games and/or items for sale. Please contact Peggy Walker for more information, 903-926-1960.

Jefferson Sports Banquet

The 2021-2022 Jefferson Sports Banquet will be at 6p May 19, at the JHS Commons. The annual event is sponsored by the Jefferson Athletic Booster Club and honors the year’s athletes. For more information, or to purchase tickets, contact the JABC.

Balloon Glow

Marion County Chamber of Commerce will hold their 2nd Annual Balloon Glow on June 4 at the Cypress River Airport. The late afternoon event will feature vendors, food trucks, games, tethered hot air balloon rides, and the glow itself. There will also be a hot air balloon in town on June 3. Miss East Texas Pageant

The 2022 Miss East Texas Pageant, “The ‘Toni’ Awards, will be held at 6p.m. June 4, at the Jefferson High School Commons. Pageant fee is $60 and is open to surrounding areas, we will have pageant forms at the schools no later then next Wednesday and you can also message me to receive one via email. Pageant deadline is May 15th to enter. To register for the Miss East Texas Scholarship Pageant, contact Stardom Williams at 903-917-6023.

JLEP-JAAC Law Enforcement Partnership

JLEP/JAAC are excited to host the 2nd Jefferson Community Law Enforcement Partnership event from 4-7p from June 11th at the Jefferson Community Center.  Last year, they had several school conflicts, so we changed to this date so more folks can attend. Please bring a table, chairs, canopy pop up, and your organization’s information
