Marion County Seal

Staff Reports

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office will be trading confiscated firearms for ammunition, but only through an FFL dealer, after Commissioners approve the proposal during Monday’s regular meeting.

Sheriff David Capps said he’d gotten bids from three different FFL dealers after allowing them to review the guns. All the guns are sold “as is” in a single lot.

Commissioners also approved full bids to place three tracts of property back on the tax rolls.

The properties, as presented by Patti Wallace for Marion County Tax Assessor/Collector Karen Jones, included:

• Parcel 7775, 10.8 acres, bid received from Fred and Janet Williams for $8,640. The property was struck off the rolls in May 2002.

• Parcel 9581, Shady Shores Hill Side Section Lots 58 & 59, from Sydney Torres Gonzalez for $1,000. The property was struck off in September 2003.

• Parcel 4641, 1 acre A-220 J Johnson survey, from Taylor Stroud Meade for $2,867.23. The property was struck off in December 2019.

As all of the bids were for the full amount, the court only needed to approve the bids and authorize the county judge to sign the deeds.

Commissioners also authorized the County Auditor to begin accepting sealed bids for “road supplies.” Those supplies include: recycled road topping, sand, clay, gravel – including contract gravel delivery, pre-mixed oil dirt, road oil, on-road and off-road diesel, and unleaded gasoline.

The County Auditor has specifications for these items in her office available during normal business hours.

Bids will be accepted through 9 a.m. May 31, 2022, and the Court will open the bids during that day’s regular meeting.

Marion County is also in search of a Veteran’s Service Officer, following the resignation of the previous officer earlier in the year. Those interested in applying for the position, should contact the Marion County Judge’s Office at 903-665-3261.
