V. Hugh Lewis II/Jefferson Jimplecute
Over the next few weeks election signs will start popping up across the county like daffodils.
The City of Jefferson, Jefferson ISD School Board, and Marion County will hold elections in May.
Portions of the County will be holding a special election to convert the remaining “dry” precincts to “wet,” allowing for the sale of alcoholic beverages across the county.
JISD School Board has two seats up for election this year.
Place 4 has only one candidate, Leah Cooper, so she will continue her term.
Place 5 has drawn two candidates as Rusty Mauldin and Douglas Hurst will be competing for the seat vacated by Kevin Godfrey, who resigned at the last School Board meeting. Godfrey’s term was set to expire this year.
The City of Jefferson has one seat available in each of the City’s three wards.
Ward 1 has three candidates competing for the seat: incumbent Jim Finstrom, Charles “Bubba” Haggard, and B.W. Brooks.
Ward 2’s only drew one candidate, Jefferson newcomer Ray Hengst.
Ward 3 also has three candidates vying for the seat: incumbent Robin Moore, Doug Thompson, and Rod Rodriguez.
The Jimplecute will schedule a candidate forum for the Thursday before early voting begins, or April 20, for all candidates, and will publish a candidate profile that same week.
The last day to register to vote is April 6. Early voting begins April 24. The last day to apply for a Ballot by Mail is April 25. The election is May 6
