The Jefferson Convention and Visitors’ Bureau (JCVB) codified two new events and discussed the upcoming Texas Travel Counselor’s Conference Monday night.
The two events approved were first okayed at last month’s meeting. But the agenda did not identify the events by name, so board chair Colleen Taylor asked the JCVB to reapprove, so the record is reflected correctly.
The Jefferson Lions Club will host their inaugural Lucky 5K & Fun Run this weekend.
Another 5K, Woofstock, which will benefit the Marion County Humane Society will be held later.
Both new events will receive $1,000 seed grants from the JCVB.
They also discussed another event earlier in the meeting.
Opera House Theater Players (OHTP) Director Marica Thomas told the board her group plans a third installment of the Pioneer Days event over Labor Day weekend.
The JCVB has yet to offer any funding for the event, but Thomas said she’d be back in the months to come with a formal request for assistance.
In other business:
-Taylor said the board was on-track budget wise. “We are five months into our year at 43 percent of our budgeted HOT tax collections,” Taylor said. “We’ve been able to get a few past due accounts caught up.”
