City Council: Strategic Plan, QZ to hold meetings

The City’s Comprehensive Planning Task Force and the Quiet Zone Committee will be holding public meetings to relay findings and gather more public input.

The CPTF will hold a public meeting from 5:30-7p Thursday, February 22, at the Visitor’s Center, with the Texas Target Communities group from Texas A&M seeking input on  Recreation and Tourism, Facilities and Amenities, and Economic Development in the City. 

The QZ group was tasked with calling a Town Hall meeting in the next 30-45 days to begin relaying detailed information to citizens on what’s involved, and potential costs in establishing a railroad quiet zone.

In other business, Council:

• reminded they have rescheduled their March meeting to March 26

• approved building permit for Rick & Ellen Smith

• approved proceeding with  sewer projects on Polk Street, and Owens Street, and requesting additional funding from JEDCO for the expense

• tabled the Community Center grant contract, hiring an administrative assistant for P&Z

• approved meeting with BVG4 Architecture on a new City Hall and Fire Station
