Marion County Commissioners approved to support Friends of Jefferson Animals (FOJA) during Monday’s regular meeting.

Commissioners approved offering up to $10,000 in matching funds for grants FOJA applies for and receives.

“Most grants have some type of match requirement,” said Marion County Judge Leward LaFleur. “This way, FOJA can have the full use of the grant without having to pull from their current funds.”

LaFleur also said that if FOJA receives a grant who’s match is above the $10,000, that the County would try and find a way to fund the difference.

FOJA is a non-profit organization which works to rescue animals in the county that are in unhealthy living situations. They regularly foster and arrange transport for dogs and cats, as well as sponsor low-cost vaccination and spay and neuter clinics throughout the year.

To volunteer or make donations to FOJA, contact Dina Carrol at 720-838-1699. A donation box is also available outside Moore Insurance on Polk Street.

COmmissioners also agreed to receive information on security camera system for the Kellyville Community Center. LaFleur said recent events at the Center have shown that some type of live monitoring is needed. He also said the cameras were the first of many requests he is bringing to Commissioners for approval.

“If we don’t take action now, the building is going to be in as bad a shape as the courthouse was before the restoration,” he said.

In other business Commissioners updated the County Road Map System index by added a portion of Foster Road in Pct. 2 to the index; approved final 2023 budget amendments and transfers; and approved submitting the questionnaire for Public Official and law enforcement liability insurance.
