PAACC Meets

Health Fair

Marion County Resources Alliance will hold a Health Fair from 10a-1p March 2 at Mims VFD station, 9902 FM 729. There will be vision screenings, blood pressure checks, glucose tests, health insurance resources, free vaccinations for uninsured, BMI checks, medication questions, health and safety resources, and free lunch and gift card drawings. Boxing

MoJo Boxing and Dement Bros Boxing Club will hold a Boxing Showcase from 1-4p March 2 at the Marion County Community Center, 501 Haywood Street. $1 donation requested to watch and/or spar. Matchups will run from 1-4p and mouthpiece and headgear is required to participate. Beje Burgers will be on site with plates for $8.

Cannon Shot

Marion County will celebrate Texas Independence Day at 3p March 2 on the Dallas Street side of the Courthouse. The replica of the Gonzales cannon will be fired. Guest speaker is Genevieve Collins. There will be a social hour following the event. An RSVP is requested to Zack Baldwin at zbaldwin@afphq.org.

Play Tryouts

Readings and try-outs for a role in the Opera House Players next play, “The Women” by Claire Boothe Luce, will be from 2-3p March 2-3, and March 9-10 at Christ Episcopal Church parish hall. Scripts will be available and cold readings are fun and if you want the synopsis, check it out on the net or look up the famous 1939 film that was a winner!  All parts are for women and most will be doubled characters!                  The play is loads of good dialogue and it will be a reading play so no memorization will be necessary. Farmers Market

The Mimms Community Center Farmer’s Market is coming back in March! They are looking for plants (vegetables or flowers), fruits, breads, eggs, jewelry, edibles, wood products, quilting, soaps, lotions, oils and Honey! Space is $25 for at least 8 weeks in Spring and Fall. Vendors mush supply their own equipment. A space at the VFD Yearly fundraiser is also include on Oct. 5. Monthly Mixer

The Marion County Chamber of Commerce will hold their monthly mixer at 6p March 19 at Kennedy Manor. There will be hors d’oeuvres, networking, and more. For more information, 903-665-2672.

Bags N Bingo

The Marion County Chamber of Commerce will hold their annual Bags, Bling, and Bingo fundraiser at 6p March 20, at the Jefferson Visitor’s Center. Tickets are $25 before March 15, and $30 at the door. Additional bingo cards are $5. Nine games per ticket are included. Seating is limited so get your ticket early! For more information, 903-665-2672.

Rummage Sale

The City Wide Rummage Sale is set for April 4-6 and is sponsored by the Marion County Chamber of Commerce. Registration to be on the Chamber Map is $25 and will be published in the Jimplecute. Opening Day

The Jefferson Diamond Youth Baseball and Softball Association will hold Opening Day activities on April 6. While signups have officially closed, Coaches and players for some age groups are still needed. Contact jeffersondixie@yahoo.com for more information.

The Friends of the Jefferson Carnegie Library will hold their Annual Spring Golf Tournament on April 6, 2024, at Crooked Hollow Golf Course in Greenwood, La. The Friends of the Jefferson Carnegie Library will host author David Puckett as he does a reading and reception on his book, Eye on the Sparrow, at 5:30p April 17, upstairs at the Jefferson Carnegie Library. The event is free and open to the public.

Diamond Bessie

Tickets for the 70th Diamond Bessie Murder Trial are on sale and may only be purchased by calling 903-665-0737. Performances begin on Thursday, May 2nd at 7:30p. Other performances will be Friday, May 3rd at 7:30 pm and Saturday, May 4th at 5:30p and 8:30p. The final performance will be Sunday, May 5th at 2 pm.
