The City of Jefferson’s quest to find a solution it’s current City Hall situation took a step forward last week as Council held a Town Hall meeting to solicit input from members of the community.

JISD Superintendent Michael Walker was also on hand to answer questions and hear feedback on the proposal to temporarily relocate City Hall to the Jefferson Primary campus. JISD is discussing closing the campus at the end of the 2023-24 school year, but would like to see the building utilized to help preserve the history of the former Central High School.

Comments leaned towards using the facility for more general community center type needs – the arts, children’s programs, or heathcare services – rather than as a government building. Those proposals were off-topic for the City’s purpose but indicated a need in the community.

Council seemed to indicate their desire to stay at the Transportation Center rather than moving to another temporary location while a permanent solution is found.

No decisions were made at the meeting, but Council will be continuing to address the issue in upcoming meetings.
