Caddo Lake is a place filled with beauty, mystery, and memories for many families who have lived along its shores for generations. It’s also the setting for a delightful new children’s book called Caddo Lake: The Man They Call Paw Bear and the Brim Queen, written by Debi Allen and illustrated by Madilyn Coyne. This fictional story takes readers on an adventure with three curious ducklings who wander away from their nest and discover all the magic and fun that Caddo Lake has to offer.

On their journey, the ducklings meet a cast of characters.  Each of these roles help bring Caddo Lake to life in a way that shows just how special this natural lake is for the families who live nearby. Generations of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren have grown up enjoying the lake’s natural beauty, and now this book captures that spirit for young readers everywhere.

Debi Allen, the author, wrote the book as a tribute to her granddaughter, who inspired her to create the story. “It’s an act of love for my granddaughter,” Debi explained. In fact, the phrase, “I love you to the lake and back”, is something Debi always tells her granddaughter whenever she says goodbye to her.

This sweet saying will even make its way into the next story Debi is working on, which she hopes to release by Christmas. That book, a second in what may become a series, is currently waiting on illustrations.

Illustrated by recent JHS graduate Madilyn Coyne, Debi said she has been a great partner, and the two worked closely to bring the story to life.

“Madilyn was great to work with. She’s really fun,” said Debi.

Together, they’ve created a charming and colorful book that captures the essence of life around Caddo Lake.

The book has already captured the hearts of young readers. Debi recently had a first-grade teacher read the book to her class, and the students couldn’t get enough of it! The story of Paw Bear, Brim Queen, and Blue Duck had them hooked from the start.

If you’re interested in picking up a copy of Caddo Lake: The Man They Call Paw Bear and the Brim Queen, the book is available at several locations, including the Jefferson General Store, Honey Hole, the elementary school library, New Beginnings in Vivian, La., and on Amazon, where it has earned five-star reviews.

Debi Allen is also open to opportunities for book signings and events where she can share her story with others. The adventure of Paw Bear and the Brim Queen is just the beginning, and Debi looks forward to continuing to write these stories as a tribute to her granddaughter and their special connection to Caddo Lake.

For anyone who loves the charm of Caddo Lake and the warmth of family traditions, this book is a must-read, offering a glimpse into the joy and adventure that this special place holds for all who visit.
