AG Candidate to visit Jefferson
The public will have a chance to get-to-know Joe Jaworski on Sunday, June 13 in Jefferson
Jaworski is a third-generation Texas trial attorney and former mayor of Galveston, Texas.
He has filed to run in the Democratic Primary for Attorney General of Texas
Jaworski’s term as mayor was defined by the city’s success in rebuilding Galveston’s storm-devastated public housing systems.
His family legacy is bound by the judicial system.
Joe’s grandfather was Watergate Special Prosecutor Leon Jaworski who took the Nixon Administration all the way to the nation’s highest court.
Joe make a stop in Jefferson at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 13.
The event will be sponsored by the Jefferson Jimplecute and will be held at a location to be determined.

Demolition to close I-20 Sunday
Lansing Switch Road bridge be demolished for replacement
Interstate 20 will be closed from 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 6, until 5 a.m. on Monday, June 7, as crews work to demolish the bridge crossing the interstate at Lansing Switch Road in preparation for its replacement. Eastbound traffic will exit at Loop 281 and be detoured down FM 968 to FM 450 where they will get back on I-20. Westbound traffic will exit at FM 450 and be detoured up to US 80 and then to Loop 281 where they will get back on I-20.
The construction schedule and highway closure can change due to inclement weather or other unforeseen problems.

Hot Air Balloon
Mini Glow Set
The Marion County Chamber of Commerce and the Jefferson Tourism Development Board are hosting a Hot Air Baloon Mini Glow at 5:30p on June 5 at the Cypress River Airport.
Ticekts are $10 per vehicle entry fee. Tethered Balloon Rides are $20 per person.
Square Dancing is around the corner
The East Texas Square and Round Dance Association will host their 59th Annual Texas State Federation of Square and Round Dancers Festival June 10-12 at the Marshall Convention Center.
There is free admission for spectators and lessons are offered throughout the year by local clubs.

JHS Cheerleading Mini-Clinic Coming
The JHS Cheeerleaders are sponsoring their annual Mini-Clinic starting June 14 from 1-5p.m
Those interested in attending must be at least 3-years old and potty trained and be younger than 6th grade.
Participants will learn motions, jumps, cheers, chants, a dance, and basic stunting techniques.
There will be a family showcase at 4p.m on June 18t, where they will perform what they have learned.
The cost is $60 per child ($70 after June 4), and includes a T-shirt, snack/drink each day, crafts and picture with the Bulldog.

Master Naturalists Training Class
The Cypress Basin Chapter of Texas Master Naturalists is beginning a new training class August 20. The required 40 hours of training is spread over 4 months, one weekend a month (Friday 6-9pm and Saturday 9-5). Most classes will be held at the Caddo Lake National Wildlife Refuge in Karnack. Cost is $130 for an individual or $200 for a couple. Being a Master Naturalist includes volunteering to provide education, outreach, and service dedicated to the beneficial management of natural resources and areas in East Texas. Texas Tech Offers Free Coding Class
Texas Tech University in Jefferson is offering a Free Coding Prep two-week course this summer.
The course is designed to help students “understand more about what they can go into with Cyber Security, Full Stack Web Development, or Software Engineering,” said Program Coordinator B.W. Brooks. “This is a great course to determine what you want to go into, and everyone should take this course.”
Start dates for the course are June 1, June 15, July 6, and July 20.
