Jefferson Pro Rodeo to benefit local scholarship program

The 2022 Jefferson Pro Rodeo, scheduled for this weekend, September 30th and October 1st, will be hosted by family and friends of Becca Anderson with the net proceeds benefitting the Becca Anderson Memorial Scholarship Program dedicated in her memory.

The event will be held at the Jefferson Livestock Association Arena, located 2 miles east of Jefferson on Highway 49. The action starts with the grand entry at 7:30 each night. Tickets are $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for children 12 & under and kids 3 & under get in free. Events include bareback bronc, saddle bronc, steer wrestling, break-a-way roping, tie down roping, team roping, barrel racing and bull riding. 

Events for the young rodeo participants include mutton busting, stick horse races and a calf scramble. Sign up for the mutton busting and stick horse events start at 7:00. The entry fee for the mutton is $15.00 & riders must be 8 & under and not weigh over 60 lbs. There is no entry fee for the stick horse race for kids 6 & under but is limited to 10 per night.

There are eight teams registered in the high school scholarship calf scramble with 4 teams competing each night. The first two teams that halter their calf and get it into the winner’s circle will each receive $50.00 cash and a $200.00 scholarship to be applied towards dual credit courses or payable when the student enters college or trade school. 

Returning this year will be the 3-time LRCA and 2-time UPRA nominee for Contract Act of the Year, Rodeo Clown Preston Broxson to perform one of his unique specialty acts. Also scheduled to entertain the crowd will be a ladies’ equestrian drill team, The Red Dirt Riders out of Texarkana, Texas. 

The drawings for the two raffles will be held during the Saturday night rodeo. Tickets for the $500.00 in VISA gift cards are $5.00 each or 5 for $20.00; tickets for the 50” TV are $2.00 each and will be available for purchase each night at the arena.

The rodeo is produced by the Bergeron Rodeo Company of Lake Charles, Louisiana and is sanctioned through the United Professional Rodeo Association, Louisiana Rodeo Cowboy Association and Arkansas Rodeo Association. Slack competition for contestants not entered in the nightly performance will be held after the Friday night performance. All rodeo entries must be made online or by call in as stated on each association’s website.
