Free Concert set for Sunday at Cumberland

The Marshall Symphony Orchestra will continue its 71st season with Mozart and More, a performance at Cumberland Presbyterian Church on Sunday,  November 6, 2022 at 3 pm.  The concert will feature Mozart’s Symphony #25, as well as music by Scott Joplin, Antonio Vivaldi and other favorites.   The concert will be conducted by the MSO’s internationally renown music director, Kermit Poling.  

The featured soloist will be Centaur recording artist and Global Music Award Winner Giovanni De Chiaro.   Giovanni De Chiaro taught guitar at the University of Southerm Mississippi in Hattiesburg for 23 years. He made his solo debut in 1976 in Carnegie Hall. He also performed at Carnegie Hall with the Mississippi Guitar Quartet, an ensemble that he established. He has performed throughout the United States, South America, Canada, Europe, and Mexico and has performed at the White House twice for President and Mrs. Bill Clinton.  Mr. De Chiaro has over a dozen albums that he recorded for the Centaur label, the largest independent classical music label in the United States.  

Kermit Poling is also Centaur recording artist and his recording with the London Symphony Orchestra in 2017 won worldwide acclaim and a Global Music Award.  Poling has been featured with orchestras such as the Orchestra Filarmonia Veneta in Italy, the Symphony Orchestra of the State of Mexico, the Moscow Ballet and most recently has made repeat appearances with Orchestra Indiana and the Monroe Symphony.  

This performance is presented free of charge by Cumberland Church.   The concert will also be presented the previous evening at ETBU as part of the symphony’s regular subscription series.
