By V. Hugh Lewis, II, publisher

“Three times is the charm,” said Jefferson Police Chief Gary Amburn. “I have worked with Jefferson P.D. for a long time and my resignation/ retirement was approved tonight by the city council. I want to thank all the residents in Jefferson and the county for a wonderful career and a long one. 50 years as a peace officer and now is the time to turn the reins over to a younger man. “

Amburn turned in his resignation this month, effective December 31,2019, to council who accepted it during Tuesday nights regular City Council meeting.

“Now that Council has accepted his resignation we can post the position,” said Jefferson Mayor Bubba Haggard.

As far as the future goes, Amburn said, “I do want to run for Jefferson City Council in Ward 2 if the Jefferson Residents want me there,. I will never let you down as you all have been there for me over the years. I Love You All and I will forever be honored by the support given me. God Bless.”
