Staff Report

Drive on up.

Commissioners heard a proposal from Enterprise Fleet Management’s Rami Saad at the start of Monday’s regular meeting. The proposal offered the county the opportunity to replace 20 vehicles, primarily with the Sheriff’s Office, with new ones, to the cost of $169,122 to the county the first year. It would also change out 5-6 vehicles every 12 months. The plan suggested the County could save over $230,000 over the next 10 years.

The proposal came as Commissioners have been working on options to purchase vehicles for both the Sheriff’s office as well as the County Constables. Limited availability of vehicles has made it difficult to locate cost effective vehicles.

Commissioners took no action on the proposal.

The Sheriff’s office was approved to spend $6,434.50 for their portion of a $25,738 grant to receive new Body-Worn Camera’s and move the footage storage to the cloud. According to Sheriff David Capps, the current cameras are aging and should have been replaced several years ago. Current concerns over local hard disk space for storing video is also becoming an issue as the equipment has been repaired several times. The grant allows it all to be updated and moved to the cloud for access.

County Clerk Vickie Smith and District Clerk Susan Anderson addressed the court and asked for guidance on how to deal with humidity problems in the file storage rooms in the newly renovated courthouse.

The clerks pointed out that while the weather was cool it was not an issue, but now that the weather is warming up, the humidity is becoming a problem. According to Marion County Judge Leward LaFleur, HVAC technicians have proposed  installing additional insulation in the attic spaces, at a cost of around $50,000. He is pursuing additional bids at this time.
