October is officially proclaimed Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Jefferson after Mayor Rob Baker made the annual proclamation.
“…In recognition of the important work done by domestic violence programs, I do hereby proclaim the month of October 2022 to be Domestic Violence Awareness Month and urge all citizens to actively work toward eradicating domestic violence, improving survivor safety, and holding perpetrators of domestic abuse accountable for their actions against individual survivors and our society as a whole,” Baker read.
Mike Watts was approved as the final appointee to the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission. Alderman Jim Finstrom made the appointment request in absentia as he is traveling for this meeting.
Rebecca Landers will be adding a three-quarter bathroom to her home at 205 E. Delta following council’s approval of a building permit.
Friends of Jefferson Animals’ request to increase their city allocation from $13,000 to $16,250, was also approved.
Alderman Robin Moore provided an update on the Strategic Plan Core Team’s activities on their upcoming meeting next week. There is a public meeting on October 12 at the Jefferson Community Center on Haywood Street. The purpose of the meeting is to engage with the public and obtain input for the planning stages of the project. October 13 will have a Stakeholder meeting for selected individuals for more detailed input. Four “pop-up” locations around town will also be available on October 13 to provide information and get public opinions and comments on the project.
Council held a brief executive session to discuss the Jason Carroll lawsuit with their attorney.
Moore moved to authorize a three-person committee for an upcoming mediation event. Baker, Alderman Richard Turner and Finstrom were also appointed to the committee.
